Welcome to our Website

This year, 2021, is CCNB's 29th anniversary of campaigning for cycling improvements and promoting cycling in Bedford Borough. Last year for the first time in 14 years saw a significant drop in residents cycling to the railway station and town centre due to the declaration of the coronavirus Covid-19 as a global pandemic in early 2020 and the UK lockdown on 23 March 2020. Cycling did increase for journeys to work and exercise in late March/April due to the resulting drop in traffic and cleaner air. The easing of the lockdown however in May/June saw traffic levels and pollution rising again as public transport was shunned in favour of an increasing number of car journeys. Since then there has been a series of other lockdowns and even with most of the restrictions eased on 19 July 2021 the virus is still with us.

Please stay alert, keep your distance and wash your hands regularly to help reduce the spread of the virus.

'Climate Change' and 'Air Pollution', in addition to the coronavirus are two of the world's crises of our time and with 42% (2019 figure) of the total emissions in Bedford Borough coming from transport, it is therefore important that in 2021 more residents URGENTLY consider using a cycle as an alternative to a motor vehicle to travel short distances. Cycling is fun - good for your health - great for your fitness - fastest mode of transport for door to door short journeys - environmentally friendly - saves money on parking and fuel.

It offers mobility for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities and creates safer and more pleasant streets.

Bedford together with Kempston has always been a cycling town and today has an extensive cycle network (see map) mostly on a mixture of off-road paths and tracks and quiet residential roads which with the surrounding villages makes up a great cycling experience.
